'Non-Muslim expert' Rais told to shut up

By G Vinod
KUALA LUMPUR: Information, Communication and Culture minister Rais Yatim's statement that gambling was a way of life for non-Muslims drew fiery responses from two parliamentarians.

DAP secretary-general and Bagan Pinang MP Lim Guan Eng said sarcastically: It seems Rais is now an expert on Chinese affairs.
“Just because a majority of non-Muslims gamble does not mean it is something we embrace as way of life,” said Lim, who is also Penang Chief Minister.

Tenth Malaysia Plan: Long Live NEP – RIP NEM

The signature theme of Datuk Seri Najib Razak on his accession as Prime Minister in April last year was the national transformation of Malaysia, which is anchored on four critical pillars:
  • 1st pillar: “1Malaysia, People First, Performance Now” concept to unite Malaysians.
  • 2nd pillar: the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) to deliver the outcomes defined under the National Key Result Areas (NKRAs).
  • 3rd pillar: the New Economic Model (NEM) resulting from the ambitious Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) to transform Malaysia by 2020 into a developed, competitive and high income economy with inclusivity and sustainability.
  • 4th pillar; the 10th Malaysia Plan 2011-2015 as the first policy operationalisation of both the government and economic transformation programme.

The Penang State Government opposes the RM9.40 toll rate

The Penang state government will call for an all party meeting to mobilize and unite support amongst all Penangites against the proposed RM9.40 toll rate for both the Penang first and second bridge. I’m surprised at Gerakan’s opposition to the increase in toll rate to RM9.40 by 2013 for both bridges when the Cabinet, including Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon, has already approved the toll increase.

Does it mean that Barisan National component party do not know what they are doing in Cabinet or the tail does not know what the head is doing. Or is this another example of double faced politics?

Ucapan atas Rancangan Malaysia Ke-10
Terima kasih Datuk Yang di Pertua,
Di-sini saya ingin sampaikan pandangan saya tentang Rancangan Malaysia ke-10.

Ucapan perbahasan RMK-10 ahli parlimen Sibu

Grand plan or grand illusion?

Datuk Seri Najib Razak has said that to ensure Malaysia could compete globally, it needs proper implementation, co-ordination and execution.

He said that to achieve that, all Malaysians must be united and work together while embracing the 1 Malaysia concept, where people are given priority in any of the government’s programmes.

The prime minister said this when opening the Seri Murugan Centre (SMC) at the Vivekananda Secondary School in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

“When I took over as the prime minister in April last year, I decided to build a new Malaysia on the spirit of 1 Malaysia where we must be united and be part of a large family and combine the best of each community,” Najib said.

PM 'misled' House on sports betting, DAP wants action

By Syed Jaymal Zahiid

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP wants Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to be referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee for allegedly misleading Parliament over the sports betting licence issue.

Its MP Tony Pua said Najib, who is also the finance minister, had misled the House when he denied issuing the licence to business magnate Vincent Tan's betting outfit, Ascot Sports Sdn Bhd.

Copies of the proposal made by Berjaya Corporation Bhd, Tan's flagship company, were distributed by Pua to the media in Parliament here as proof that Ascot Sports was given the licence.
