DAP's share of the non-Chiense support in the 2011 Sarawak State Election

The 2011 Sarawak State election was a historic election in that it was the first time in more than 20 years in which the opposition managed to achieve a double digit representation in the state assembly by winning 15 out of 71 seats (or 21% of total seats), not including the one independent who won the seat of Pelagus.

The DAP emerged as the biggest winner by winning 12 out of the 15 seats which it contested in.
While the DAP could not have achieved this win without the overwhelming support of the urban voters, it would be a mistake to say that DAP’s support was only present among the Chinese voters. In many of the seats in which DAP contested in which had a significant percentage of non-Chinese voters, the DAP managed to win at least 30% of the vote among the non-Chinese voters. In some of these seats, the DAP far exceeded the 30% mark among the non-Chinese voters.

Is Najib becoming another Pak Lah - a Prime Minister whose writ does not run in UMNO?

The question many are asking is whether the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is becoming another Pak Lah, the fifth Prime Minister whose writ did not run in Umno although he was also Umno President ending in his ignominious exit as Umno chief and prime minister.

This question has become more pronounced after Najib’s meek and completely unacceptable stance over Utusan Malaysia’s “1Melayu, 1Bumi” call.

Najib’s tame excuse is that the “1Melayu, 1Bumi” call was made by a columnist of a local daily and was the personal opinion of the writer concerned.

MCA leaders' failure to condemn Utusan Malaysia's racist

It's been two days since the recalcitrant UMNO-owned Utusan Malaysia fanned the flames of racial disunity by calling for a 1Melayu, 1Bumi movement to battle the so-called Chinese challenge to Malay dominance in Malaysia, and yet, MCA leaders are still conspicuously silent on the matter.

The only reported statement by MCA on the matter is a quote of MCA Vice-President Liow Tiong Lai saying, "Utusan cannot generalise the whole thing. It has nothing to do with race. It has more to do with the urban needs and the rural needs." (Source: http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/mca-sarawak-chinese-voted-on-urban-rural-lines-not-race/ )
