DAP urges MCMC to act on photo
DAP will be submitting an official complaint to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) next week on the doctored picture showing Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng slaughtering a cow during Hari Raya Haji.
Its national publicity secretary Tony Pua said the MCMC must take action against the culprits behind the doctored picture which was widely circulated via emails.
"The fake photographs are defaming Lim so actions must be taken to stop the culprits," he said in a press conference at Lim's office in Komtar here this afternoon.
In the picture, Lim's face was superimposed on the image of former Perak menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin who was slaughtering a cow during Hari Raya Haji.
While condemning MCMC for taking action against an English daily sub-editor Irwan Abdul Rahman aka Hassan Skodeng for posting a fictitious comment involving Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Pua said the MCMC should be taking action against those who are posting up malicious content instead.
He said Irwan's blog, nose4news.wordpress.com, had clearly displayed a disclaimer stating that the posts were parodies and fiction and yet, the MCMC charged him.
"However, the doctored pictures of Lim were posted with malicious intent and do not contain any disclaimers whatsoever so MCMC must take action against those behind it," he said.
Lim's political secretary and Komtar assemblyman Ng Wei Aik had lodged a police report regarding the circulation of the doctored picture.-The Sun
