Grandma meets her idol at last

SIBU – An 82-year-old grandmother was thrilled to meet her idol – Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

At a dinner function held at a coffeeshop in Jalan Datuk on Friday night, the excited woman was led to Lim's seat as he sat waiting for his turn to address the 300-strong audience.
Grasping both his hands, Ling Chin Geok was all smiles as she talked to the DAP secretary-general for the first time.

The young politician offered his seat to her and a beaming Ling sat down to have a private conversation with her hero. Lim was all ears and grinning widely.
Guan Eng made Ling's day as she happily chats with the 'handsome young man'.
He then offered to stick a DAP logo on her blouse, to which she agreed.

Politics-savvy

Ling, a former teacher, said she had taught since she was 21.
After her retirement, she kept her mind sharp by reading books and newspapers. She said she had always been interested in politics and was keenly aware of Malaysian politics.

“I read Guan Eng was coming and I told my son I had always wanted to meet him.
"I had been following his political career all these years. He is such a handsome young man,” she said.

Ling then waited for Lim to finish his speech as she wanted to give him an ‘ang-pow’ as a token of appreciation in having met her.

Earlier, Lim met up with his fans, both young and old alike, and had his pictures taken with them. The crowd stayed on to hear speeches by other Pakatan Rakyat leaders. — Malaysian Mirro
