GEORGE TOWN: A DAP assemblyman has taken Umno Senator Ezam Mohd Nor
to task for suggesting that Karpal Singh retract his statement made in
1997 that Anwar Ibrahim had committed sodomy.
Kota Alam Shah assmblyman M Manoharan described Ezam’s remark as “senseless and immature”.
Furthermore, he said being a party hopper himself, Ezam did not have
the moral eligibility to advice a senior politician like Karpal.
“Ezam breached political ethics to hop from one side to another. What
moral standards does he have to advice the DAP national chairman?” he
added.
Ezam had reportedly urged Karpal to retract the statement made in
parliament, in which the Bukit Gelugor MP claimed to have proof that
Anwar committed sodomy.
The former PKR Youth chief said Karpal should apply to parliament to
have the statement struck off from the Hansard if he was serious about
Anwar being a possible candidate for prime minister.
He also called on Karpal to apologise to the Malay Muslim community over the statement.
Ezam said Karpal should know that the Malay Muslim community in
Malaysia would never allow someone who was guilty of sodomy to become
prime minister.
Manoharan noted that Karpal had been an elected MP for seven terms
and served as state assemblyman for four terms, all under the DAP
ticket.
He said Ezam on other hand hopped from PKR to Barisan Nasional and was appointed a senator via the back door.
Hence, he said Ezam should not be talking about political ethics.-FMT
