DAP demands lawyers presence at MACC interrogation
KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 — The DAP today demanded the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) allow lawyers to be present with witnesses during interrogations.
DAP National Chairman Karpal Singh said that witnesses should have access to their lawyers since they could now be hauled up to be questioned beyond office hours.
“Witnesses should have a right to counsel when giving statements (to the MACC).
“Lawyers should be present... simply videoing is not enough,” Karpal told The Malaysian Insider.
The veteran lawyer was responding to a report earlier today which quoted the MACC complaints committee as saying that it had proposed installing CCTV cameras in interrogation areas as part of overhauls to investigation procedures following the death of Teoh Beng Hock last year.

Putrajaya dream not far-fetched, says Kit Siang
Pakatan Rakyat's victory in the recent Sibu by-election proved that all is not lost for the coalition in its hopes of winning the 13th general election, and forming the next federal government.
In his blog, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang also said the days Barisan Nasional considered Sabah and Sarawak as its “fixed deposits” are over.
“The BN survived the onslaught of the 2008 political tsunami due to the support from Sabah and Sarawak.
“However, it must have realised now that it cannot take the voters of the two states for granted by disregarding their legitimate grievances and discontent,” he said.

Defeat a bitter pill to swallow
PJ UTARA MP Tony Pua was up early on Monday despite having had only a few hours of sleep after a long day and an even longer night.
But Pua, who had been among the DAP young Turks running the Sibu by-election campaign, was his usual adrenalin-driven self, talking a mile-a-minute, his thoughts often running faster than his words. No Monday blues for him, for sure.
The voter turnout, Pua claimed, was actually about 70%, much higher than the official figure of 59% flashed out on polling day.
“When I heard about the turnout, I was really worried. I thought, mati already,” said Pua.

SIBU, May 12 (Bernama) -- The DAP wants Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the Malaysian Cabinet to denounce plans by a right wing non-governmental organisation to hold a mammoth rally in Kuala Terengganu Thursday.

Grandma meets her idol at last
SIBU – An 82-year-old grandmother was thrilled to meet her idol – Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
At a dinner function held at a coffeeshop in Jalan Datuk on Friday night, the excited woman was led to Lim's seat as he sat waiting for his turn to address the 300-strong audience.
Grasping both his hands, Ling Chin Geok was all smiles as she talked to the DAP secretary-general for the first time.
The young politician offered his seat to her and a beaming Ling sat down to have a private conversation with her hero. Lim was all ears and grinning widely.
Guan Eng made Ling's day as she happily chats with the 'handsome young man'.
He then offered to stick a DAP logo on her blouse, to which she agreed.

DAP to use national issues
SIBU: National issues will be Pakatan Rakyat’s main ammunition against Barisan Nasional during the by-election, said Sarawak DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng. “We need to remind the Sibu electorate that this is more than just a by-election.
“A victory for Barisan will mean they are getting closer to the two-third majority in Parliament while a DAP victory could mark the beginning of change in Sarawak,” said Wong, who is the DAP candidate in the polls on May 16.
Wong said Barisan had governed the country for over 50 years and its administration had often disappointed the people.
He also took pot shots at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Kow Cheong Wei mencadangkan agar MCA keluar Barisan Nasional

Kit Siang says panel ‘powerless’
By Asrul Hadi Abdullah SaniKUALA LUMPUR, May 4 — Lim Kit Siang (picture) today described the government’s special panel on Aminulrasyid Amzah’s shooting death as “powerless” and asked the Cabinet to put an end to what he called the Home Ministry’s “guerilla” response to rising public anger. The DAP leader also criticised the ministry for flip-flopping on the “powers” of the panel.
“The powerless Special Panel into Aminulrasyid’s police killing is neither fish nor fowl even with Tun Haniff as member, as well as other members including former Suhakam commissioner Denison Jayasooria, crime analyst Kamal Affendi Hashim, lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (Asli) chief executive officer Dr Michael Yeoh and UiTM deputy vice-chancellor Prof Abdul Halim Sidek.
“The guerilla response of the Home Ministry could be seen from the on-the-run chop-and-change as to what the Special Panel can and cannot do,” he said.

By FMT Staff
PETALING JAYA: The statements by Wisma Putra, Petronas, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and former premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi regarding the oil “sell-out” to Brunei all have one common purpose – to avoid answering two important questions, said DAP leader Lim Kit Siang.

The two questions are:
- When and why Malaysia ceded away Malaysian sovereignty to two oil and gas-rich offshore areas in South China Sea, namely Block L and Block M, in favour of Brunei? and
- When did Brunei surrender its territorial claim of sovereignty to Limbang and recognise full Malaysian sovereignty instead?
